thing #23

here is my front door. i was standing here about an hour ago getting my keys out and i felt something hit me and run across my back really hard. i turned around and saw a chipmunk jump off of my back and run off the porch. i was glad it wasn't the serial rapist, but still terrified that there was a territorial chipmunk hanging around my door.

i bring this up because i thought that in some ways, this experience was much like my learn and play experience. then i thought about it a little longer and realized in some other, more relevant ways, it wasn't like learn and play at all and was just a funny thing that happened on my lunch break.

learn and play was pretty fun. my number one favorite thing was learning about google docs. that's the biggest thing i'm going to take away from this experience. and i also really liked blogging and posting my photos. i think that when i get a little older i might start up a blog of my own. i'm waiting until i get older because i think i might be a little more interesting then and have more activities to talk about.

i also was kind of disappointed that helene blowers didn't have a bigger part in introducing learn and play and that she didn't have a bigger presence on the learn and play website. i would have really liked to hear her speak at the michael stephens kick off event. but i can see where she probably wanted other cml staff who haven't done a program like this before to get the experience. i just think helene is neat.

and i wish more people revealed their identities on their blogs.

finally, technology is good and all. but i think some really important things suffer at the hand of this instant technological connection stuff. forgetting that you're a human being and not a cyborg being one of those things. there is so much crap out there. on the internet, on tv, being sold at best buy... so. much. crap. it all wants your attention and lots of times, your money. and it's up to you to find what works for you. don't overload and remember to breathe.

10 random things

i was reading helene blowers' introduction in the aple newsletter. i liked her idea that everyone post 10 random things about ourselves, so here are mine:

1. i've worked for cml for 7 years and probably won't work anywhere else. this is partly because i love the system, and partly out of laziness on my part.

2. i met my boyfriend while we worked at the hilliard library. we communicate 90% of the time in simpsons quotes. did i mention he is the greatest person in the world?

3. i have a friend who is my "hetero life-mate" (think jay and silent bob) named ashley. we used to be roommates, now we're neighbors. she is unbelievably clever and funny and can always make me laugh.

4. i have a really raunchy sense of humor outside of work.

5. weird things don't shock me easily. sometimes i pretend like i'm shocked about something, but i'm really not.

6. i like keeping house. we shop for groceries and make meals. i dust my baseboards... sometimes.

7. my parents are awesome. they always encouraged me to be myself.

8. i graduated high school 3rd in my class and graduated summa cum laude with honors from osu, but i'm really not that smart.

9. i play the guitar and have performed in front of audiences before.

10. i do this thing while i'm thinking or nervous where i take sections of hair from the back of my head and stroke them and untangle them. i know this is really creepy and annoying.

thing #22

moldy? old? i'm getting something to eat! -homer

and also, someone used to think a good nickname for me was "moldy." molly... moldy...

i've shown customers moldi before, mostly when i work my sundays at hilliard. and it is just super that you'll be able to use your ipod with it now. that was just stupid before when you had to tell people you couldn't use your ipod.

so i don't listen to audiobooks and i hate reading lots of text on a computer screen, so i'll probably never use moldi for my personal use. but i logged into moldi, figured out how to checkout an ebook, downloaded a slick adobe ebook reader, and scrolled through the ebook. i could definitely see showing this to a customer. the non fiction ebooks i saw in there were kind of dated and not too attractive looking. it looks like the fiction collection of ebooks is more current.

and even the audio book collection is kind of hit or miss. i could see this really taking off in the future, if the collection grows.

treehouse of horror viii is my favorite treehouse of horror. i just realized this last night while we were having a halloween treehouse of horror marathon. easy bake coven just might be my favorite thoh short ever. "she's a witch!" "i got a caramel cod!" and marge's hair bursting into bats.... "you finally left derwent." "his name is homer" (in a delightful bewitched parody.)

i took this picture when i was having fun in paris with my friend rachelle in march of 2006. this is what the french call "graffiti". it really is though. there was a big mural of things that people had randomly stenciled or spray painted on the side of a building in montemarte. i loved this lady with a guitar. there was also a stencil of a foot in high heels, with the question "why does she torture herself?" that was a good one too.

i always forget that i've actually been to paris. one of those things that i remember all of a sudden and think, was that really me? was i really there? and it seems like a million years ago. i forgot my coat and it was really cold.

this album is just ok, but i've had the above lyrics stuck in my head ever since i heard this song. rhyming eel with feel. and electric with electric. brilliant. but really. it is so catchy i can't decide if i like it because i think it's cheesy, or if i really like it.
