look at the totally gross thing i found today in the 600s. somebody found it easier and more fulfilling to shove a (cherry?) fruit pit into the bookshelves than to just throw it away in a trashcan. oh the humanity!

thing #21

here is part of our living room. this is why i love ikea. here is why i don't care for podcasts: it's the same reason i hate talk radio. and i hate audio books. and i've never been much of a phone person. something about only hearing someone talk and not seeing anything. no pictures, no person in front of me. i just don't like it. i need some visuals. or i get bored.

i did find some podcasts that i might be interested in... if they were blogs. i found library geeks and more hip than hippie and managed to get them into my bloglines account. it took a little extra clicking around, but i found their rss feeds and added them into my bloglines. that worked pretty well. i found this list of libraries who are currently podcasting. the best thing i found were podcasts from libraries like the denver public library. they've updated the 'dial a story' into a 'click on a story'. podcasting children's books. pretty cool.

back when me and atomicbrewster used to have internet, we could spend hours looking at funny animal videos on youtube. that is probably my #1 favorite use for youtube. oh, and watching that ok go treadmill video. but i like how we use video clips embedded in cmlsi and maybe even on columbuslibrary.org? can't remember if i've seen them there. it's a fun way to show people all the neat events happening around the system.

but back to the funny animal clips. for the first time, i am going to attempt to embed a video clip in my blog. this is dedicated to TJ and his all time favorite thing ever, skateboarding bulldogs. enjoy.

here is a picture from the sigg website. did you know that sigg is awesome? i have this one. do you ever think that when you have a drink out with you on desk that when you walk away some customer you evicted before might grab it and spit in it and you would never know? until you took a drink and thought it tasted a little funny? this thought consumes me.

do you ever have one of those days where your shoes keep coming untied? even when you double knot them? i found this picture via a search for copyright free photography. i like free.

i wish this was a picture i took of our bedroom, but alas. it is not. this is courtesy of domino magazine's website. i really need to do more with all the photos i have of friends and family. these are just a bunch of frames glued together. but on to the power tools. i like the library tool bar that is loaded on all of the library pcs, i use the events button a lot when i'm helping customers. i don't use the extra search box a lot, i usually just go to the webpage first. and i hate it when the google search box is set to search the catalogue instead of the web. i didn't realize there was a power tools blog. i also checked out the link to the creative commons website. it is more complicated than i thought it would be. there are so many different types of creative common copyright things.

thing #18

the web 2.0 tool i chose is last fm. i liked going through and picking out my favorite artists. and the recommendations it chose were great (i'm listening to it right now! death cab!). the only thing i could see myself using this for is to set up my computer at home to play a station, like when i'm cleaning or having a party. or cleaning up after having a party. fun! but since i don't have internet at home, that probably won't happen. for library use, i could see showing it a customer who wanted music recommendations. kind of like music advisory. which no one ever asks me and which i'd love to help someone with. i think customers would also like it to listen to while they are on their computer sessions. last fm= good, because it is free radio w/o talk or commercials, and because it can introduce you to new bands.
